Chapter Leadership Position Descriptions

Position Title: President

Responsible to: Board

Position Summary:
The President, an elected and voting member of the Board, provides leadership and direction to the Chapter, focusing resources on the issues that fulfill the Chapter mission and annual plan. The President ensures ongoing attention is paid to the Chapter’s budget, and strategic plan, ensuring that relevant goals are established, budgeted, acted upon and reviewed. The President presides over the local Chapter Board meetings.

Position Responsibilities:

Provides leadership to the Board and within the Chapter
Provides guidance and ideas and facilitates discussions regarding issues relevant to the Chapter
Leads Board meetings and attends as many programs as possible
Ensures that an annual report is developed and published that includes goals for the year including that an operating budget is developed and published annually
Sets the agenda and presides at all Board meetings, at least once each quarter and ensures a meeting report is available to members if requested
Selects and leads a committee to identify new committee leaders/chairs

Position Qualifications:

Strong management and leadership skills
Effective communication skills speaking in public
Familiar with ASTD policies and procedures
Is required to be National ASTD member
Willingness to devote 2 years to the Chapter in a leadership capacity
Experience with the various components of the Chapter in a recent Board position.

Time Required:

Approximately 7-8 hours per month, including Board meetings
Requested to attend ASTD National Leaders Conference in Virginia (2 days)
